Job Purpose

As a Project Manager at Ferguson Marine, you will lead the end‑to‑end delivery of complex marine vessel projects to meet customer, commercial and regulatory expectations. You will form and lead Integrated Project Teams, ensure adherence to Health, Safety & Environmental standards, and drive performance across engineering, production, supply chain and commercial functions. You will be accountable for project baselines, cost, schedule and quality, with responsibility for managing risks, change, and senior‑level stakeholder engagement.

This is an exciting role where you will help shape not only project outcomes, but also the organisation by influencing multi‑disciplinary teams through effective planning, control and leadership.

In this role, the ideal candidate will be able to use their experience to effectively manage complex shipbuilding projects, sometimes multiple projects running simultaneously at various lifecycle stages.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all project activities comply with company and regulatory HSE standards, promoting a safe working environment across all functions.
  • Form and lead Project Integrated Project Teams, providing direction, development and support to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Acting as the primary contact for project execution, coordinating closely with engineering, production, supply chain and commercial teams.
  • Develop, maintain and manage full Project Baselines across scope, schedule and cost – ensuring cross functional alignment and buy-in to the Project Plan and Baseline.
  • Apply Project Controls and Earned Value Management (EVM) to monitor project performance, identify variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee Control Account Management and performance indicators throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage project budgets, ensuring cost control and effective resource allocation and maintaining accurate Estimate at Completes (EAC’s) for the Project.
  • Evaluate technical and commercial change requests against the project baseline and contractual scope.
  • Lead the identification, assessment and mitigation of project risks while maximising opportunities, in line with industry project risk management practices.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders at senior levels, providing high‑quality written reports and project updates.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering, quality and regulatory requirements, coordinating input from engineering, design and classification bodies.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in a Project Manager role within a relevant marine, engineering, or similar industrial environment.
  • Strong leadership capability with a track record of managing multi‑disciplined project teams.
  • Demonstrable experience in Project Controls, EVM and Control Account Management.
  • Commercial awareness with experience working with NEC3/NEC4 or similar contract methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills, including senior‑level report writing and presenting.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and project planning tools (MS Project, Primavera P6).
  • Eligible for BPSS security clearance (nationality and residency restrictions may apply)

Desirable:

Experience in shipbuilding or the marine sector and typical operations, engineering processes or marine classifications.

Project Management certification (e.g. APM).
