Location: London
Job Description:

Want to join a brand new team, that is just a couple of months old and is rapidly growing?

The client

Are you someone with DevOps and Cloud experience who is keen to put their own stamp on things and make important technical choices that will impact the future of Westminster?

What’s in it for you?

You’ll get a salary of up to £99.5K, flexibility to work on a hybrid basis (1 day a week in London), as well as around 30 days holiday a year, furthermore, they have some really good pension options where they will match contributions up to a total of 26%!

In terms of career progression, the sky is the limit – as a newly established team, there is plenty of room for you to move up the ladder and take on as much responsibility as you want.

The role

What you’d be doing?

You’d be joining their Cloud Engineering team, which currently consists of 2, however, they are rapidly growing and expect to add 7 more heads to the team within the next year.

You’ll be building Westminster’s community by working in a diverse team; aiding in the council’s adoption of multi-cloud (Azure/AWS/GCP) services. This will include responsibilities such as the migration of services into Cloud platforms, implementing and maintaining cloud security, and providing administration and configuration of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, as well as designing CI/CD process flows and providing guidance on how this can be delivered – all whilst managing performance robustly.

You’ll work across the whole of the Digital and Innovation portfolio, supporting activity across core IT and technology, customer and digital, and supporting their Smart City ambitions to make Westminster a world-class city. This will require a proactive and relentless focus on delivery.

About you?

Open-source, cloud-based, loosely-coupled technologies are their preference, this is to make sure their technology remains nimble and easily iterated upon, and ensures services are built upon APIs wherever possible.

It’s Multi-cloud-based, with GCP and Azure as their go-to computing platforms (however they will likely introduce AWS too). They use Terraform for their Infrastructure as Code tool and like to make use of DevOps methodologies with both Kubernetes and Docker for containerisation, and Prometheus and Grafana for their analytics, monitoring, and alerting. You will also need to have knowledge of one or more programming languages below:

  • Rust
  • Go
  • Python
  • C#

Don’t stress if you haven’t got experience with every single requirement above, as long as you’re experienced in most of it, they’re happy to invest in you and help you upskill with the rest.

The candidate

A bit about them?

Westminster City Council believes in creating a fairer Westminster, putting residents first. They put residents at the heart of all their decisions, and campaign for a government that is on their side. They work together to adapt to the changing needs of their communities – resulting in a dynamic atmosphere where ambition, diversity, and creativity are celebrated.
