Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and progressive Psychosexual Service providing excellent therapeutic intervention to the residents of Lancashire and Blackpool. The successful applicant will demonstrate highly experienced therapeutic and supervisory skills in addition to managerial and leadership expertise working closely within the team and alongside the service lead. Their managerial position will enable them not only to creatively contribute toward the provision of excellence in service delivery and service user experience and outcomes but also to be forward facing moving the service and the team toward positive change and development.

Main duties of the job

There will be the formulation of a clear job plan combining therapeutic client work and clinical supervision alongside dedicated time to work with the service lead from a leadership/managerial perspective. 50% of the role will be direct team management and service development.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as an expert practitioner in Psychosexual Therapy.
  • Maintain a specific caseload and manage reporting to the Principal Therapist.
  • Work effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues to provide efficient and high-quality standard of care.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal clinical practice including regular supervision as specified by the College of Sex and Relationship Therapists (COSRT).
  • Contribute to maintaining a positive and efficient service waiting list.
  • Provide evidence of effective service delivery through ongoing monitoring and evaluation in line with key performance indicators.
  • Support governance and quality improvement agenda – ensure supervision and Care Quality Commission standards and regulations are embedded in practice.
  • Provide leadership for the service and deliver advice, consultancy, teaching and training to colleagues within and outside the Trust.
  • Contribute to development of policies, procedures and protocols in relation to clinical intervention/practice and service management.
  • Support the Head of Service to ensure budgetary management for the service remains within parameters.
  • Adhere to Trust clinical and management policies and procedures.
  • Support innovation and change within clinical practice in line with Trust requirements and emerging national priorities and guidance.
  • Ensure all clinical interventions are evidence based and clinically effective.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner to undertake independent, direct consultation and provision of care.
  • Formulate, provide and evaluate intervention/treatment for complex patients, including rationale for decision making.
  • Adopt the concept of customer care and challenge performance or interactions that fail to deliver quality service.
  • Represent the beliefs and values of the organisation and act as a role model for the service.
  • Comply with training to identify and manage risk, including safeguarding concerns, ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Maintain own professional registration and hold responsibility for own continued professional development, meeting requirements to maintain a professional portfolio and demonstrating evidence of reflective practice.

Person specification

CPD

  • Achievement of COSRT required CPD mandate.

Psychosexual Therapeutic Experience

  • Post Graduate Qualification in Sex and Relationship Therapy awarded from COSRT accredited course.
  • History of managerial experience at staff and/or service level.
  • Qualification in clinical supervision and/or extensive experience in role to provide competencies to provide supervision.
  • COSRT Accreditation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of presenting psychosexual and relationship issues and experience of direct client contact and provision of specialist therapeutic interventions.
  • Good understanding of physiological and psychological sexual disorder and ability to develop a framework of care that identifies predisposing, precipitating and maintaining factors using evidence based theoretical knowledge.
  • Absolute understanding of confidentiality.
  • Exact understanding of safeguarding and integration of practice and procedure.
  • Experience of assessing psychosexual referrals and ability to differentiate between appropriate and non-appropriate referrals.
  • Experience of working with a diverse client group with a wide range of presenting problems and significant levels of distress.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working.
  • Experience of working with dyad.
  • Experience of applying research-based knowledge into appropriate practice.
  • Experience of policy development and implementation.
  • Previous experience within an NHS/healthcare setting.
  • Experience of contributing toward service development, audit and outcome measures.
  • Experience in managing change processes at an operational level.
  • Ability to effectively contribute toward management of a diverse caseload and reduce overall waiting list.
  • Ensure compliance with CQC requirements, manage and mitigate clinical risks.
  • Recognised management qualification or at least 2 years experience of management.
  • Evidence of awareness of current financial landscape in healthcare provision with financial and resource management experience.
  • Experience of using service user outcomes and feedback to drive change.

Supervisory experience

  • Registered or accredited psycho sexual Supervisor.
