Governance Lead

Remote (UK) with occasional travel to UK sites (typically St Ives, Cambridgeshire)

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity for a senior Governance Lead to join a fast-growing, innovative organisation operating in the compliance, risk, and operational performance sector. Working closely with the CEO and executive team, this role plays a key part in shaping governance, strengthening resilience, and supporting strategic growth.

This is a hands-on leadership role covering contracts, risk, compliance, insurance, and supplier governance, with both strategic and operational influence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts
  • Provide clear, pragmatic and commercially focused advice to senior stakeholders
  • Support strategic initiatives, partnerships and commercial decision-making
  • Develop and maintain governance frameworks, policies and controls
  • Maintain contract registers, templates and governance processes
  • Advise on legal, operational and compliance risks and contribute to the corporate risk register
  • Support governance reporting, board documentation and decision-making materials
  • Lead or support audits, compliance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage insurance policies, renewals and broker relationships
  • Oversee incident notifications and claims processes ensuring timely submission
  • Support supplier governance, including contract reviews, due diligence and ESG compliance
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency and high ethical standards
  • Provide training and guidance across the organisation on governance and compliance

About You

  • Significant experience in governance, compliance, legal or procurement roles
  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Solid understanding of governance frameworks and risk management
  • Experience working closely with senior leadership teams
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to balance legal and business needs
  • Proactive, solutions-focused approach with high integrity

Desirable

  • Exposure to ESG, data protection or supply chain governance
  • Relevant professional qualification (legal, procurement or similar)
