Senior Lawyer – Litigation Team
We’re looking for a Senior Lawyer to join our Litigation Team within West Northamptonshire Council’s Law and Governance service. You will provide high‑quality civil litigation advice, representation and support across the organisation, handling a varied and often complex caseload, representing the Council in County Court proceedings, and supporting High Court matters such as judicial reviews. The role is part‑flexible, with the ability to work remotely for up to three days a week, and is based at One Angel Square in Northampton.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality civil litigation work for the Council.
- Manage a varied caseload and represent the Council in County Court proceedings.
- Support High Court matters including judicial reviews.
- Provide clear and practical legal advice to officers and members.
- Prepare complex legal documents and work closely with Counsel when needed.
- Supervise two junior colleagues, contribute to service development, share legal updates, and strengthen collaborative working across the organisation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Post‑qualification experience in civil litigation.
- Strong advocacy skills and the ability to communicate legal issues clearly and confidently.
- Comfortable managing complex workloads and working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience within local government or committee work is helpful but not essential.
- Sound judgement, professionalism and a commitment to delivering an excellent, customer‑focused legal service.
