SCS Clinical Practitioner (Practitioner Psychologist / Senior Social Worker)
An exciting opportunity for experienced psychologists and senior social workers who are keen to support children and young people who display sexually harmful behaviour, to join our Safer Connections Service (SCS). The service works alongside the Therapeutic Emotional Support Service (TESS) to deliver consultation, assessment, intervention and support to children and young people aged 7‑17 who display harmful sexual behaviour.
The SCS team adopts a multi‑agency approach, working collaboratively with partner agencies including Birmingham Children’s Trust Early Help, Child In Needs teams, Safeguarding and Children in Care services, Birmingham Youth Justice Service, Police and our local CAMHS service, Forward Thinking Birmingham. The team currently comprises a Team Manager, 3 Clinical Practitioners and 2 HSB Practitioners and is looking to recruit 2 additional team members from a social work or applied practitioner psychology background.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a high‑quality service to children, families, caregivers and victims of harmful sexualised behaviour.
- Work independently and as part of a team to learn, innovate and drive improvements.
- Provide direct support to children, young people and their families who have experienced significant adversity and traumatic experiences.
- Work with children who display harmful sexualised behaviours and contribute to the development of evidence‑based practice within this speciality.
Qualifications
- Clinical or forensic psychology qualification and senior social worker experience (or equivalent).
- Skill in formulation, risk assessment and management of children with histories of early adversity, social care or youth justice involvement, childhood trauma or significant attachment disruption.
- Interest in evidence‑based practice and research, and a willingness to develop knowledge and skills within this specialism.
- Experience working with children and young people with presentations relating to harmful sexual behaviour a plus, but openness to learning in this area is acceptable.
