Job Description:

We’re seeking an Automation Maintenance Engineer at our Tyneside Mail Centre, Earlsway, Gateshead, NE11 0YY site, to ensure the smooth running of cutting‑edge automation systems.

Salary: £53,195 per annum plus night shift allowance, 22.5 days annual leave with bank holidays and a defined contribution pension scheme. Weekend supplement for Saturday (£53.14 per attendance) and Sunday (£106.28 per attendance) shift attendance is applicable.

Contract: Permanent. Hours: Full‑time shift attendance equates to 40 hours per week.

Typical shift pattern

Week off. Nights – 18:00 – 06:00 Monday – Thursday. Days – 06:00 – 18:00 Monday – Wednesday / Nights – 18:00 – 06:00 Friday – Sunday. Days – 06:00 – 18:00 Thursday – Sunday.

The Role

  • Keep our automation assets performing at their best through preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects from concept to implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and team leaders, completing reports and logging faults.
  • Diagnose and resolve automation breakdowns quickly to keep operations flowing.
  • Monitor performance and work with stakeholders to boost output.

About You

  • Experienced multi‑skilled engineer, qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Willing to work towards obtaining a City and Guilds 2391 & 2392 testing and inspection certification.
  • Experience in maintaining automation equipment, ideally with PLC knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation.
  • Proactive team player who can also work independently.
  • Full UK manual driving licence (for occasional travel to other sites).
