Job Description
Cambridge City Council is seeking a proactive and collaborative Assistant Finance Business Partner to support the delivery of high-performing, client-focused finance business partnering across a diverse portfolio of council services.
Our key responsibility is to provide finance support to services throughout the annual financial cycle, from medium-term financial planning and budget setting to in-year financial monitoring and forecasting, and year-end accounts preparation.
Working closely with your Senior Finance Business Partner and Finance Business Partner, you will provide and process financial information for Financial Services, Corporate Hub, Economy and Place, and Shared Services.
This is a supporting role within our Finance Business Partnering team. You will influence operational performance and efficient service delivery by working directly with internal and external stakeholders across your portfolio. There will also be opportunities to gain broader experience in finance business partnering activity, depending on business need and the postholder’s development goals.

About You
This is a great opportunity for someone at the early stages of their finance business partnering career, who is looking to build skills and gain experience in a supportive, public sector finance business partnering environment.
You should be working towards the AAT qualification. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to explain financial transactions and information effectively to non-finance professionals, listen actively, and collaborate confidently with colleagues at all levels. We are looking for someone proactive, organised, open, and approachable, who can build positive working relationships across teams.
Proficient Excel skills are important to support financial transaction processing, reporting, and modelling tasks.
Experience in local government finance is advantageous but not essential. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and grow in the role are what matter most.

Hours: This is a full-time role, for 37 hours per week.
Working Pattern: Mondays to Fridays
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £37,280 – £441,771 per annum (City Pay Band 5)
Location: This is flexible – working in Cambridge on site or at one of our offices or working from home. You will be able to work mainly from home and balance your work location according to need.
