Senior Residential Care Worker – Children’s Assessment Home

Pay: £16.50 per hour

Role Overview

Providing high‑quality, person‑centred support to children experiencing challenges, ensuring safety and wellbeing, and leading shifts and supervising residential staff. The role is to support children during assessment placements, observe and record parenting interactions, collaborate with colleagues and external professionals, and maintain high standards of care in line with Ofsted regulations.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Children Residential Care, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience within residential childcare, working alongside young people.
  • Manual UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality, person‑centred support to children.
  • Support children during assessment placements.
  • Observe and record parenting interactions.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external professionals.
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with children.
  • Lead shifts and supervise residential staff.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and placement plans are followed effectively in line with Ofsted regulations.
  • Observe and document child interactions.
  • Support children with daily routines.
  • Produce detailed, evidence‑based reports.
  • Maintain a safe and structured environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with children, young people.
  • Strong communication, observation, and report‑writing skills.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations calmly.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Mental health support experience.
  • Experience in secure units or residential/custodial settings.
  • Supporting children/young people with challenging behaviours.
  • Trauma‑informed care and complex needs.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic team member.
