Conservation Grazing Officer

£24,509 – £26,490 per annum
The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations, seeks to appoint a Conservation Grazing Officer to work as part of our grazing and nature reserves team, delivering habitat restoration and management across Yorkshire’s nature reserves.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the conservation grazing manager, site managers and volunteers to manage a range of grazing animals including rare breed sheep, cattle and ponies
- Ensure animal welfare and husbandry, including collecting and moving animals between sites and assisting with the breeding programme
- Recruit, train and support volunteer teams to maintain animal welfare and support grazing activities
- Provide emergency cover out of hours and on weekends as part of a rota
Qualifications
- Substantial practical experience of animal handling, livestock movements, and treatment of common grazing animal ailments
- Experience in livestock breeding, preferably lambing, and ideally having worked in a similar role
- Sound knowledge of nature conservation and how grazing supports habitat restoration and management
- Ability to work flexible hours and be available for after‑hours and weekend emergency cover
