SMBC Group is seeking an Analytics Governance Director to lead the development and implementation of governance frameworks for reporting and analytics across EMEA.

Role Summary

The Analytics Governance Director will be integral to SMBC Group’s data transformation initiatives, focusing on compliance with BCBS239 and ECB onboarding. The role leads the building of analytics governance capability across all EMEA departments and entities, establishing and embedding frameworks, policies, and standards for reporting and analytics.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and roll‑out of new frameworks, policies, standards and procedures for governance of reporting and analytics.
  • Oversee the embedding of these frameworks across all EMEA departments.
  • Develop training, support and stakeholder communication programmes to enable organisational adoption.
  • Lead delivery of a pipeline of analytics governance initiatives, ensuring quality, traceability to requirements, and adherence to project plans.
  • Act as the primary contact point for key stakeholders, managing expectations and navigating complex corporate environments.
  • Manage risks, dependencies and issue resolution for analytics governance, acting as senior escalation point.
  • Build and mentor a high‑performing team, bridging data, technical and business teams.
  • Collaborate with other SMBC regions to support globalisation objectives.
  • Maintain productive relationships with Data, Technology and Business Departments to support effective delivery.
  • Lead RFP processes, evaluate responses, and define commercial terms for analytics governance work; manage suppliers and oversee delivery against contracts.
  • Manage delivery and performance across contractors and consultants, setting clear objectives and maintaining scope control.
  • Define and report key metrics to track success of the Analytics Governance team and communicate value realisation.
  • Support implementation of the EMEA Data Strategy.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience establishing Data, Reporting, Analytics or End‑User Computer (EUC) governance.
  • Experience in governance frameworks supporting BCBS239 principles; ECB onboarding experience is a plus.
  • Experience in the financial services industry and knowledge of data‑related regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead enterprise change initiatives that deliver impact and achieve organisational adoption.
  • Strong influence over senior stakeholders and cross‑functional collaboration in complex, matrix organisations.
  • Experience managing risks, dependencies and issue resolution across complex portfolios.
  • Demonstrated experience managing, developing and mentoring high‑performance teams.
  • Credible experience implementing agile, hybrid or scaled delivery frameworks.
  • Experience leading proposals/RFP responses and defining commercial terms.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and overseeing performance.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, able to explain complex concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Deep understanding of governance frameworks and best practice for Data, Analytics and AI.
  • Good grasp of Data Analytics technologies, SDLC and development best practices relevant to analytics and reporting.
  • Good understanding of information management and information security principles relevant to analytics and reporting.

Desirable

  • Experience using cataloguing tools such as Collibra or Apparity.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends in Data Analytics and Data Science.
  • Experience with AI project delivery and analytics governance considerations (e.g. ethics, bias).
