Habilitation Officer – Vision Impairment Support Team
Location: Greenwich, London
Salary: PO1 (scale 27 – 30) £41,113 – £43,680 per annum
Contract type: Permanent (Term Time Only)
Hours per week: 3 days a week
Overview
You will be part of the Sensory Service’s Vision Impairment Support Team, delivering high‑quality support to Children and Young People across the Borough in homes, early years settings and mainstream schools.
Responsibilities
- Promote and develop independent travel and life skills for CYP with vision impairment, including those with additional needs.
- Prepare CYP for adulthood and build confidence to become independent.
- Work closely with families and settings to build capacity to support CYP by reinforcing essential independence skills.
- Provide support in varied environments – homes, early years settings and the wider community – and travel around the authority as required.
- Work independently, manage time effectively, and collaborate with visual impairment team colleagues and other professionals.
Qualifications
- Graduate Diploma in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight (Children and Young People) or an equivalent qualification.
- Substantial relevant work experience in visual‑impairment habilitation.
- High expectations of CYP with visual impairment.
- Strong teamwork skills, ability to work independently, manage time, and travel around the authority.
- Has an Enhanced DBS check (or ability to obtain one).
Other Conditions
Enhanced DBS check is required.
Flexible and hybrid working arrangements are available, subject to service requirements.
