Clean Power Hydrogen Group Ltd (CPH2) is a leading developer of Membrane‑Free Electrolysers™ designed to produce green hydrogen and pure oxygen in a simple, safe, sustainable manner and at any scale. Dr. Nigel Williamson and Joe Scott established CPH2 (Ireland) in December 2012 with the ambition to help clean up the environment for future generations. They developed a Membrane‑Free Electrolyser™ to produce hydrogen faster, more reliably, and more cost‑effectively than PEM technology, overcoming cost, reliability, and scalability barriers.

About the job

As a Commissioning Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer, you will report to the Chief Operations Director/Commissioning Manager and collaborate on projects to achieve FAT/SAT sign‑off. You will work closely with the Mechanical, Process, Electrical, and Procurement teams as well as external vendors and contractors. The successful candidate will play a critical role in commissioning and start‑up of electrolyser systems, ensuring they meet design, safety, and performance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Develop and follow commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules for electrical, control, and instrumentation systems.
  • Perform pre‑commissioning checks, loop testing, and calibration of instruments and controls.
  • Verify and troubleshoot electrical systems, including motors, drives, switchgear, and power distribution.
  • Validate functionality of control systems (such as PLCs) against process requirements.
  • Work closely with Process and Commissioning engineers to ensure seamless integration of EC&I systems with the overall process.
  • Perform start‑up and functional testing of process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve technical issues during commissioning to achieve operational performance.
  • Prepare detailed commissioning reports, including test results and non‑conformance findings.
  • Raise and resolve build issues with relevant contractors and vendors where necessary.
  • Ensure all EC&I systems comply with relevant standards, codes, and safety requirements, particularly Safety PLCs and ATEX/IECEx compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • HND/HNC Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics Engineer or similar.
  • Relevant commissioning experience (minimum 3 years).
  • Willingness to travel and work on‑site during commissioning phases.
  • Ability to work in potentially hazardous environments with adherence to strict safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Engineering & Standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work well within a multi‑discipline environment.
  • Organisational and reporting skills.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to produce accurate work to strict project deadlines.
  • Able to manage time and priorities individually and work well as a team.

Desired Skills

  • Experience designing electrical systems in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety Assessments and SIL verification.
  • Experience working in Hazardous Areas in compliance with ATEX and IECEx standards.
  • Working understanding of PLC programming and control logic.
  • Ability to write and interrogate PLC code.
  • Instrumentation sourcing and selection.
  • Knowledge of writing technical reports according to validation procedures.
