TRAINEE OPERATIONS MANAGER

Contract: Permanent / Full Time (Job Ref: TOM/05/26)

Competitive Salary

Working Hours: – Monday to Friday 08.00 – 17.00 hours (40hrs/week)

Location: Mallusk (however the nature of work may require travel to various sites throughout Northern Ireland, as and when directed)

Due to our continual growth, we are looking to appoint a Trainee Operations Manager for our depot in Mallusk.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate who is ready for a challenge and would like to develop their skills and capabilities within the Waste Industry and gain invaluable experience in this exciting role.

As Trainee Operations Manager you will progress through a customised training plan, mentored by experienced members of our team. You will be given the opportunity to learn new skills and gain recognised qualifications with the aim of successfully integrating into the business as a Permanent Operations Manager within a 12-18-month period.

Purpose of the Job

The jobholder will be responsible for the planning, organising, control, quality and legal requirements for all waste treatment activities for the Mallusk site.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • To be responsible and ensure all operational activities within the sites are conducted in accordance with company policies, environmental legislation, Health & safety legislation and Statutory legal obligations.
  • To prepare and manage the operational budget within the agreed parameters.
  • To manage, motivate and provide direction for an operational team to achieve the operational objectives.
  • Responsible for Training and Development of employees and management to ensure that Health and Safety standards are maintained.
  • Ensure all Plant equipment is fully functional and that this is maintained within the legislative guidelines in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • To deliver the operational performance objectives within the agreed parameters.
  • Work in partnership and support all Management throughout the group to achieve the company objectives.
  • To support and advise the Health, Safety and Environmental compliance officers in the continuous development and improvement of company policies and procedures in line with evolving legislation.
  • To ensure all sub-contractors working on site comply and work within the guidelines of the required company procedures and legislation.
  • Promote a Positive Work culture.
  • To Investigate all accidents/ incidents/near misses, preparing detailed reports, and ensuring all recommendations are implemented. Liaising with legal representatives, health and safety executive and insurance companies as and when required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as required by Management.

Essential criteria

To be considered for this role, you should display the following:

  • At least 2 years working experience in the Waste Industry, Recycling or Aggregates industry.
  • Previous experience of managing/supervising a small team and can demonstrate excellent leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Must be IT literate and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of MS office to produce reports, charts presentations etc.
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Flexible approach to working hours to ensure smooth running of operations
  • Able to prioritise effectively and is results driven
  • Must be willing to complete further studies /qualifications to support the job role.

Desirable Criteria

  • Budgetary Management experience
