About the Opportunity

The Hinkley Point C (HPC) project is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years. HPC will house two EPR reactors capable of generating 3.26GW of secure, low‑carbon electricity for 60years, enough energy for about 6million homes. We are recruiting a Field Engineer – Welding NDT to support surveillance and quality assurance activities on the construction site.

Responsibilities

  • Perform surveillance to ensure activities are conducted in accordance with the Contractor’s Work Information and HPC quality requirements.
  • Serve as team lead, ensuring that HPC Quality targets and expectations are met.
  • Advocate for a robust Nuclear Safety Culture and embed this approach in all processes.
  • Conduct continuous, notified, and planned surveillance of contractual works.
  • Report daily to the Construction Superintendent and support site‑wide management issues.
  • Communicate and liaise with other operational team members, maintaining effective collaboration.
  • Identify non‑conformance, submit detailed requests, and assist in issuing non‑conformance reports.
  • Proactively communicate with site teams to ensure timely surveillance reporting and KPI support.
  • Identify potential quality issues early and initiate mitigating actions.
  • Take temporary measures and coordinate actions to keep work safe and within quality standards.
  • Document and maintain accurate surveillance diaries.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Welding qualifications or equivalent vocational training and experience.
  • Broad knowledge of engineering construction, materials, trades methods, and legal requirements.
  • Excellent organisation, delegation, and communication skills (knowledge of French is an advantage).
  • Proven track record of accurate diary writing in a contractual environment.
  • Experience working within large construction teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards under pressure.
  • Effective relationship building with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of relevant British & European standards, construction and design codes/guidelines such as RCC‑M, BS EN, and ASME.
