Responsibilities
Coaching, training and development of employees, identifying and implementing measures in partnership with HR, and adhering to internal performance‑management procedures (appraisals, targets, talent identification, managing underperformance).
Conduct team‑based accident/incident investigations as they arise, ensuring safe working practices are followed and a safe working environment is maintained at all times.
Support development and oversight of continuous‑improvement processes, monitoring and improving working methods to increase productivity and safety.
Plan and organise warehouse functions in a timely and effective manner, including the planning of manning and sawing activities, and implement operations and logistics internal policies and procedures for continuous improvement such as production strategy and material‑flow analysis.
Manage the team to supervise material movement, coordinate third‑party service providers and internal departments for efficient execution, and manage external contractors via the permit‑to‑work process.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address topical issues, take ownership, and report them to the operations manager.
Drive a safety‑first approach and culture of feedback and improvement; adhere to QHSE policies, procedures, training, culture, compliance, audits, root‑cause analysis, and follow‑up continuous improvement. Ensure equipment, PPE and machinery are suitable and safe, and collaborate with QHSE to develop risk assessments and safe systems of work.
Perform daily tasks including working with the stock controller to ensure perpetual stock checks, verifying material storage, operating side‑loader and overhead crane equipment to unload and prepare materials for orders efficiently and safely.
Maintain communication in line with company strategy through toolbox talks, stop‑to‑fix, start‑of‑shift briefs, and weekly/quarterly communications. Identify and drive cost efficiencies and productivity improvements by optimising manpower and focusing on value‑added activities such as saw cutting.
Focus on people by identifying skills gaps, training requirements and supporting onboarding. Create an open‑door work environment, be present and accessible to all team members. Manage performance effectively through internal HR procedures, appraisals, learning & development, attendance, disciplinary and grievance handling.
Act as a change champion – lead by example and promote change initiatives positively and effectively.
Qualifications
- Good secondary education or equivalent through time served.
- Six Sigma/LEAN experience – preferred.
- Previous experience in the metal industry.
- People‑management skills.
Job Details
Full‑time (40 hours per week), Monday‑Friday.
