About The Role

We are working with a leading organisation in the defence and advanced technology sector, currently seeking a Human Factors Engineer to join a high-performing and well-established team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping cutting-edge systems used across land, air, and sea domains. You will be involved throughout the full development lifecycle, ensuring systems are safe, intuitive, and optimised for real-world operational use.

The successful candidate will contribute to the design and development of mission-critical technology, with direct exposure to end users and the opportunity to influence system design from concept through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Human Factors Integration (HFI) activities across the system development lifecycle in line with relevant standards (e.g. Def Stan 00-251).
  • Analyse operator roles within complex systems, particularly mission planning and control environments.
  • Define and maintain Human-Computer Interface (HCI) design artefacts and specifications.
  • Lead and support structured user engagement activities to inform design decisions.
  • Contribute to a human-centred design approach through task analysis and requirements development.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including systems and software engineering.
  • Provide input to demonstrator activities, including planning and facilitating user trials and engagement sessions.
  • Deliver technical briefings and stakeholder updates as required.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Membership (or working towards membership) of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF).
  • Proven experience applying Human Factors within a defence or safety-critical environment.
  • Strong understanding of Human Factors Integration.
  • Experience in HCI design, specification, and prototyping (e.g. Axure RP or similar tools).
  • Demonstrable experience in task analysis, user research, and Human Centred Design methods.
