Strategic Operations Director (Commercial)
About the Role
Mears Group is seeking a Strategic Operations Director (Commercial) to join a newly established central specialist team focused on enhancing contract performance, driving commercial outcomes and supporting operational excellence across the business.
This is a high-impact leadership role for an experienced operational and commercial professional who understands how complex service contracts operate in practice. Working alongside regional leadership teams, you will provide strategic support across a diverse portfolio of housing and property services contracts, helping to maximise performance, strengthen commercial delivery and support sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive operational and commercial performance across complex contracts
- Identify opportunities to enhance profitability, efficiency and service delivery
- Support mobilisation, transformation and continuous improvement programmes
- Partner with operational leaders to deliver strategic business objectives
- Support pricing reviews, procurement activity and commercial negotiations
- Provide insight and challenge around financial performance, margin optimisation and cost management
- Contribute to bids, tenders and growth opportunities
- Strengthen governance, reporting and performance management frameworks
- Share best practice and support consistency across the wider business
About You
You will be a commercially focused operational leader with experience managing large-scale service contracts and delivering measurable business improvement.
You will bring:
- Senior leadership experience within housing, property services, facilities management, infrastructure or outsourced services
- Strong P&L ownership and commercial accountability
- Experience driving contract performance, operational excellence and profitability
- A track record of leading transformation, growth and continuous improvement initiatives
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
- The ability to work across multiple contracts and business functions
- Strong commercial acumen combined with operational credibility
