Part-time Consultant Neurologist

We are looking to recruit a part‑time (5‑PA) Consultant Neurologist to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital delivering outpatient clinics.

Main duties of the job

Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the Region and/or to change their base hospital.

The appointee, together with consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the provision of adult neurological services to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The appointee will be expected to contribute to routine outpatient general neurological and sub‑specialty clinics in Sheffield at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The person appointed will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department.

Qualifications

  • Registered with the GMC with a licence to practice.
  • Name on the specialist register for Neurology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Higher Degree
  • Further qualifications in research methods, teaching and/or management
  • Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships

Clinical experience

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Neurology
  • Has developed (or is willing to develop) a complementary area of sub‑specialist interest in Neurology.
  • Understanding of evidence‑based medical practice.
  • Experience with the management of complex epilepsies and other seizure disorders
  • Skills and competence in the management of patients with neurological conditions
  • Experience of epilepsy surgery evaluation
  • Has an interest functional neurological disorder

Research

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
  • Publications in peer‑reviewed journals.

Teaching and training

  • Experience of teaching medical students and resident doctors.
  • Experience of teaching/training other clinical professionals

Continuous Professional Development

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
  • Experience of appraisal or equivalent overseas arrangements
  • Commitment to life‑long learning
  • Ability to organise own learning and time
  • Membership of appropriate specialist societies
  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and Administration

  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management
  • Evidence of ability to work with management and previous experience of management groups.
  • Ability to lead a team and understanding leadership skills
  • Able to prioritise & organise work efficiently

Clinical governance and audit

  • Experience in performing clinical audit.
