Senior Project Manager – Clarke Energy
We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Senior Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of Clarke Energy’s complex EPC project portfolio. In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee a team of Project Managers and take full accountability for delivering projects safely, on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality and client satisfaction.
This position is ideal for a proven project leader with strong construction and engineering experience, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and the ability to drive performance across multiple concurrent projects. You will play a key role in ensuring consistent delivery excellence while developing the capability of the Project Management team.
The role is primarily based at our Knowsley head office, with regular travel to project sites across the UK and occasional overseas visits as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Project Managers across the full project lifecycle, from design coordination through to construction, commissioning and handover.
- Take overall accountability for programme delivery, budget performance, contractual compliance and quality outcomes across all assigned projects.
- Oversee the development and management of robust project programmes, procurement plans and resource strategies.
- Monitor performance across a portfolio of live projects, ensuring alignment with programme milestones, cost plans and quality benchmarks.
- Identify and address risks, delays or performance issues with timely and decisive intervention.
- Provide regular, clear reporting to the Projects Director, highlighting progress, risks and mitigation strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders, ensuring a collaborative and transparent approach to delivery.
- Lead negotiations relating to programme, cost and contractual deliverables to achieve commercially sound outcomes.
- Ensure variations, risks and change requests are effectively identified, managed and escalated where required.
- Provide strong leadership to the Project Management team through structured coaching, mentoring and performance management.
- Support continuous improvement, capability development and succession planning within the department.
- Conduct regular one‑to‑one meetings, team meetings and performance reviews to drive accountability and engagement.
- Ensure full compliance with Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) standards across all projects.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to CDM 2015 regulations and company procedures.
- Maintain high standards of documentation, reporting and governance across all delivery activities.
- Oversee engagement with subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring value, quality and reliability in all commercial agreements.
- Allocate project resources effectively to ensure optimal performance across the portfolio.
- Uphold Clarke Energy’s values, standards and professional behaviours across all projects and interactions.
- Travel regularly to project locations and support international activities as required.
Essential Qualifications
- Proven experience managing large‑scale engineering or construction projects within an EPC environment.
- Strong leadership experience managing and developing Project Managers or multidisciplinary teams.
- Sound commercial awareness, including budget management and contract negotiation.
- In‑depth knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental standards, including CDM 2015 regulations.
- Excellent client‑facing, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational and reporting capabilities with a focus on performance and accountability.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project planning tools (e.g., Microsoft Project).
- Degree, HND or HNC in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in the power generation or energy sector.
- Technical understanding of CHP, steam‑raising plant or electrical/mechanical installation principles.
