We are currently working with a well-established steel fabrication specialist based in the Liverpool area who is looking to strengthen their technical team with the addition of a skilled CAD/CAM Technician / Project Engineer.
This is a key position within the business, offering full involvement across both design and production.
The successful individual will play a central role in translating customer requirements into accurate, production-ready data while ensuring smooth delivery through the workshop.
The Role:
This position combines CAD/CAM programming, project coordination, and client liaison, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety and technical ownership.
You will work closely with both office and workshop teams to ensure fabrication projects are accurately prepared, efficiently programmed, and delivered on time.
Key responsibilities include:
Producing technical drawings using AutoCAD or similar CAD softwareCreating and optimising CNC plasma cutting programs using Fusion 360 (or equivalent CAM/nesting software)Translating customer requirements into production-ready files and dataManaging projects from initial enquiry through to completionPreparing quotations, estimates, and material take-offsMonitoring job progress through CRM systems and production schedulesLiaising directly with workshop teams to resolve technical and production issuesOrdering and sourcing materials to support project timelinesSupporting continuous improvement in programming efficiency and material usage
About You:
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical capability and a practical understanding of fabrication environments.
You will have:
Proven experience in CAD/CAM programming within fabrication or manufacturingStrong knowledge of CNC processes, plasma cutting, and G-codeAbility to interpret complex engineering drawings confidentlySolid understanding of mechanical engineering and fabrication methodsExperience managing projects or production workflows independentlyCommercial awareness (estimating, costing, materials planning) is highly desirableStrong organisational skills with the ability to work under pressureA proactive, hands-on approach across both office and workshop environmentsFull UK driving licenceBased within commuting distance of Liverpool
