Junior Clinical Fellow – General Internal Medicine / Specialty Medicine

Due to extensive growth within our faculty, we are recruiting a Trust Grade Junior Clinical Fellow to work in the Medicine directorate at Basildon University Hospital and be part of the exciting MSE Trust. Successful candidates will undertake a 12‑month rotational programme: two rotations of 6 months each, offering an opportunity to gain experience in a specialist environment.
You will rotate through different teams within general medicine and specialty medicine such as Endocrine, Stroke, Respiratory, Palliative, and elderly care. The role includes acute medical take, managing acutely unwell patients within the first 48 hours of admission and providing continued care for those requiring longer stays.
This post is suitable for any doctor who has completed a 2‑year Foundation School programme or has achieved equivalent competencies.
Main duties of the job
- Initial clerking in the Acute Take, assessment, diagnosis, and management of all patients admitted.
- Ward rounds with relevant consultants and management of all patients on the wards, including outlying wards.
- Referral of patients to other specialties.
- Appropriate discharge of patients after discussion with senior team members.
- Gaining experience in the outpatient setting whenever appropriate under senior supervision.
- Supervision and education of medical students (UCL and ARU) and junior doctors using ward‑based and classroom sessions.
- Contributing to the teaching of medical undergraduates as requested by Basildon & Thurrock Hospitals, one of the leading undergraduate DGH sites.
- Work hours are subject to the service requirements; posts commit to the out‑of‑hour shift rota for General Medicine, approximately 9 shifts per 11 weeks.
