PROSPER is a joint NHS & HMPPS commissioned partnership, providing a community-based Intensive Intervention & Risk Management Service on the national Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway in the West Midlands.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will support the clinical lead with the management and supervision of a multidisciplinary team, hold a small but complex caseload, and oversee delivery and evaluation of clinical interventions. The role requires travel across the West Midlands, undertaking specialised clinical assessments and interventions, developing case formulations and support plans in collaboration with other professionals, and engaging with prison and probation services. Strong leadership, communication, and an empathic, non‑judgemental attitude towards service users and the criminal justice system are essential.
Experience working with adults with personality disorder, challenging behaviour, and those involved in the criminal justice system, including neurodiversity and complex needs, is highly beneficial. Training in therapeutic approaches is also advantageous.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering clinically effective interventions and assessments for individuals on the Offender Personality Disorder pathway.
- Managing a small but complex caseload, providing therapeutic support and monitoring risk.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including prison and probation staff, to develop integrated care plans.
- Participating in service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Supporting the clinical lead in team leadership and supervision activities.
- Traveling within the West Midlands as required to provide face‑to‑face services.
Qualifications
- Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in clinical psychology (including models of psychopathology, assessment, therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology).
- Eligibility for entry onto the Register of Chartered Psychologists.
- Training in DBT, including at least 5‑day intensive training.
- Post‑doctoral training in one or more specialist areas of psychological practice or therapy.
Experience
- Minimum 4 years post‑qualification as a qualified clinical/forensic psychologist, with at least 2 years at a senior specialist level.
- Experience working with a diverse range of client groups across the lifespan and presenting problems of varying complexity and severity.
- Experience applying clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
- Experience working therapeutically with ‘difficult to treat’ or ‘hard to reach’ groups in community settings.
- Experience of safeguarding and risk management across agencies and appropriate escalation of concerns.
Skills
- Highly developed theoretical and practical knowledge of clinical psychology.
- Proficiency in providing consultation and advice to other professionals.
- Understanding of differential needs of people from black and minority ethnic groups.
- In‑depth knowledge of information governance legislation and information sharing practices across agencies.
