Position Overview

GEA is a leading supplier of systems for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical sectors. We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to work primarily in the Greater London area, traveling across the UK with overnight stays and shared on‑call duty covering one weekend in eight.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, service and repair of SFT separation equipment at customer sites.
  • Complete all site service tasks in a timely manner and keep customers informed throughout.
  • Prepare for every visit by ensuring all necessary parts, tools and equipment are available and in good working order.
  • Use correct working methods and keep all special tooling safe, clean and operational.
  • Communicate clearly with customers, especially when issues may impact costs, performance or equipment life.
  • Assist with service and repair tasks in the workshop when required.
  • Maintain clean and tidy working areas on‑site and in the workshop, and dispose of waste according to company and customer guidelines.
  • Act professionally and courteously, representing the company and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers and promote company values in every interaction.
  • Complete all required reports accurately and promptly, complying with company procedures.
  • Communicate daily movements clearly to the Service Coordinator.
  • Report any damage to tools, equipment or vehicles in a timely manner.
  • Take responsibility for the care and maintenance of company‑supplied equipment, including the service vehicle.
  • Ensure all equipment and vehicles are maintained according to manufacturer and lease guidelines.
  • Be available for overtime and weekends as needed to meet customer timeframes and support business needs.
  • Attend and contribute to regular engineering team meetings; remain flexible and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
  • Seek opportunities to increase knowledge of company products and enhance understanding of all aspects of separation equipment and processes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum City & Guilds qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Strong mechanical knowledge is essential; electrical knowledge is an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Background in technical or process engineering.
  • Ability to work carefully, methodically and safely, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, flexible team player with confidence and discipline to work independently on‑site and in the workshop.
  • Comfortable in a fast‑paced, changing environment with quick adaptation to new challenges.
  • Competent in safe operation of heavy equipment, with basic knowledge of lifting and slinging.
  • Physically capable and experienced in a hands‑on, physically demanding role.
