Production Engineer – Derby

We’re working with a well‑established engineering business in the rail sector that’s expanding and looking to appoint a Production Engineer to support their growing operation. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys improving processes, streamlining workflow and keeping production running efficiently across both workshop and mobile engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Plan daily workloads across departments and engineering teams
• Allocate labour to maximise output and efficiency
• Reduce downtime and remove workflow bottlenecks
• Drive continuous improvement and lean initiatives
• Provide technical support around coatings, repairs and surface preparation
• Ensure work meets customer specifications and quality requirements
• Support safety and compliance including RAMS, COSHH and best practice
• Coordinate equipment maintenance and identify tooling improvements
• Liaise with customers and project teams on technical requirements

Qualifications

• Experience in production or process engineering
• Knowledge of coatings, blasting, surface preparation and/or workshop operations
• Exposure to lean or continuous improvement methods
• Strong planning, communication and problem‑solving skills
