Job Overview
Senior haematology doctor within the Cancer Division at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The role is part‑time, with clinical responsibility for the Haematology Service, including patient care, supervision, teaching and audit participation.
Responsibilities
- Supervision and care of haematology patients receiving treatment.
- Assessment and advice to clinical teams caring for haematology patients.
- Ward work, including supervision of junior colleagues.
- Teaching of medical undergraduates and postgraduate staff.
- Attendance at outpatient clinics and haematology oncology referral duties.
- Provision of invasive procedures: bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures with intrathecal chemotherapy, and central venous catheter insertion.
- Participation in departmental audits and research activities.
Person Specification
Essential criteria:
- MBBS or recognised equivalent.
- Full GMC registration with license to practice.
- Completion of at least four years of full‑time postgraduate training (or equivalent part‑time/flexible training).
- At least two years of training in a relevant programme or fixed‑term trainee in haematology.
- Evidence of audit participation.
Desirable criteria:
- Previous experience in haematology.
- MRCP Part I or equivalent qualification.
- FRCR Part I (if relevant).
- Teaching experience of junior medical and nursing staff.
- Training in evidence‑based medicine and laboratory work/ BM biopsy competency.
- Experience in clinical governance.
