Overview
The Drainage Engineer will attend domestic and commercial sites to investigate wastewater works, diagnose issues, and provide appropriate recommendations for the Drain Doctor brand. Responsibilities include customer engagement, technical problem solving, and maintaining high service standards across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaising with commercial and domestic customers on site.
- Providing customer service and engaging professionally with customers.
- Investigating and diagnosing issues via site surveys.
- Advising customers on solutions and implementing actions such as:
- Drain clearance
- De‑scaling and root cutting
- Minor excavations and patch lining
- Preventative maintenance
- Using high‑pressure water jetters, CCTV camera survey equipment, and rods.
- Identifying potential concerns and making recommendations for additional work.
- Interpreting and working with drainage drawings, operating independently within areas of expertise.
- Reviewing and adhering to project‑specific risk assessment and method statements (RAMS) before commencing work.
- Identifying and mitigating risks, ensuring strict compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Driving brand awareness through professional appearance, interactions, and technical knowledge.
- Sharing knowledge and best practice with colleagues.
- Reporting to Regional Development Managers to support regional success.
- Assisting in resolving operational, performance, or compliance issues within the territory.
- Ensuring compliance with all current legislation and regulations.
- Maintaining strong KPIs and a sense of urgency to complete tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Performing any other reasonable duties within capabilities.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge
- 1 year’s previous experience within the drainage sector.
- Ideally 1 year’s plumbing experience.
- Technical expertise in drainage and related functions.
- Drainage tanker experience (preferred).
- Full clean UK driving licence with flexibility to travel.
- CSCS card holder preferred.
- Ability to use a mobile telephone (calls, photos, email, CRM application, etc.).
- Background in drainage engineering.
- High‑pressure water jetting (HPWJ) certification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- DBS check will be part of the on‑boarding process.
- Ability to work to an on‑call rota providing a 24‑hr service.
