Overview

Responsibilities

  • Develop a system that provides actionable visibility of key work across the customer experience.
  • Enable designers and researchers to share highlights of work, both asynchronously and in person.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Product to create effective collaboration on key priorities.
  • Operationalise ways to deliver Monzo’s brand with high efficiency, consistency, and quality across the business.
  • Improve or create processes that allow designers to work and think across squads, focusing on the full customer lifecycle.
  • Champion the scaling and adoption of the Monzo Design System, enhancing its practicality and value.
  • Develop the design disciplines (Brand Design, Product Design, User Research) by attracting world‑class talent, ensuring inclusion, and scaling globally.
  • Identify skill gaps and fill them through internal development or hiring.
  • Improve onboarding documentation, progression frameworks, and related materials to help the team grow.
  • Help develop AI tooling and ways of working in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Set rituals and mechanisms for developing craft and community within the design organisation.
  • Define strategies for clear and consistent communication within design disciplines, across the tech organisation, with leadership, executives and key external stakeholders such as media.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in operationalising design processes to enhance efficiency, consistency and quality, ideally in a rapidly evolving tech environment.
  • Proven ability to develop lightweight systems for cross‑functional visibility, enabling seamless asynchronous and in‑person sharing of insights.
  • Track record in developing and nurturing design disciplines such as Brand Design, Product Design and User Research, with a focus on exceptional customer experiences.
  • Demonstrated success in attracting, retaining and elevating diverse talent, building an inclusive community that thrives on creativity and innovation.
  • Strategic vision for scaling design teams globally, including identifying and addressing skill gaps through internal development or strategic hiring.
  • Experience in crafting clear and consistent communication strategies that ensure alignment and engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm for Monzo’s ambitions and the challenges of a growing design organisation, especially as it expands internationally.

  • £75,000 – £95,000 salary, with incentive awards tied to performance.
