If successful, you will provide operational support to senior managers, focusing on the day‑to‑day management of services, including staff management, resource allocation, and service improvement initiatives. You will work to ensure efficient and effective service delivery, managing administrative processes and contributing to the achievement of performance targets. Main duties of the job

  • Ensure that the directorate’s elective capacity is fully utilised.
  • Ensure that clear booking processes are in place and are adhered to at all times.
  • Minimise hospital cancellations of patients’ appointments and/or treatment through good planning.
  • Support the Assistant Service Manager in ensuring that all the directorate’s key performance indicators and local and national targets are achieved.
  • Support the development and implementation of plans to address areas of concerning performance, including leading on specific actions and areas.
  • Participate in Surgical Beds Flow Management. Act as a point of escalation during the day for problems arising; resolve issues or raise them to a senior manager.
  • Ensure that the office area is tidy and presents a welcoming and professional image of the department to other staff and visitors.
  • Lead on specific service improvements and developments across the service.

Qualifications and Experience

  • GCSE English or equivalent
  • Attendance at a leadership course or leadership/management qualification (desirable)
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment, particularly liaising with patients
  • Experience working in a busy office environment
  • Knowledge of the patient administration system
  • Experience managing staff
  • Knowledge of 18‑week and cancer waiting time rules and guidelines
