Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an energetic, motivated, and forward‑thinking Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join our expanding Emergency Department at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon. This is a permanent 10PA post, created to support the continued development of our busy Type 1 Emergency Department and to strengthen senior clinical leadership across the service. You will join a progressive, supportive, and highly engaged Consultant team committed to delivering high‑quality emergency care to a rapidly growing local population.
Responsibilities
- Multidisciplinary team working is key component of the working within the Trust and involves regular MDT discussions with colleagues.
- Providing evidence‑based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support).
- Development of sub‑specialty interests that fit in with Division needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.
- Carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties; contributing to undergraduate and post‑graduate and continuing medical education activity.
- Providing cover for Consultant colleagues’ periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within Trust policy.
- Participating in clinical audit and in continuing medical education.
- Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
- Participating in an out‑of‑hours consultant rota, detailed within the job plan section.
- Enabling senior input into patients’ journey through the ED, enhancing quality and consultant sign‑off.
- Maintaining the hours of availability of immediate consultant opinion.
- Enhancing the reputation of the department through multi‑disciplinary education, training and research.
