Position Overview
We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team to support the creation of novel engineering solutions for new product introductions and improvements to the existing product line.
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Industrialisation Manager, manage design improvement/obsolescence activities related to assigned projects, providing technical guidance in line with the product specification.
- Manage the flow of information between multiple departments.
- Implement changes to maintain specifications and drawings.
- Create and maintain product bills of materials.
- Review the content of standard project documentation such as technical, operation and maintenance manuals.
- Report on the technical content of the project to the Project Managers and support multi‑departmental reviews to ensure the right approach is followed and any additional expertise is addressed.
- Identify technical risks and support the Project Managers in developing risk‑management strategies.
- Provide technical support for customer queries and participate in customer communication.
- Track activities against project plans and budgets, reporting progress to the Project Managers as required.
- Assist the business in creating proposals as required.
- Support procurement during the project lifecycle to ensure timely response to supplier queries.
- Support the SQE and quality team in resolving quality issues, including raising formal requests, fault finding and test support.
- Support engineering design as required by the project.
- Assist technicians with build‑cycle issues.
- Support Test Technicians and Commissioning Engineers as required.
- Support Site Engineers during off‑site work with information, materials and liaison with internal resources.
- Ensure project activities are delivered as defined, including design reviews, FMEAs and appropriate test plans.
General Activities
- Provide professional backup for colleagues during peak times or absence.
- Maintain continuous professional development to keep knowledge up to date.
- Act as an ambassador for the company in all customer and public interactions.
- Carry out any other ad‑hoc duties as required to support business needs.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
- HND or degree in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing engineering or a related subject.
- Experience working in a manufacturing engineering environment.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, self‑motivation and ability to work independently.
- Able to build long‑term successful client partnerships internally and externally.
- Read and understand mechanical/electrical drawings.
- Decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong presentation skills, confident speaking and professional appearance.
Desirable
- Experience working on multiple projects.
- Practical competence in mechanical or systems assembly.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience working within a defence environment.
- Previous experience with an ERP system.
- Knowledge of ISO 9000 or a similar QA system.
Role Travel Requirements
The duties of this appointment are UK‑based but may require occasional travel within the UK. Working outside the UK for more than one month is not envisaged.
Other Requirements
Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK and must have passed or be able to obtain a UK security clearance to Security Check level, normally requiring five years’ residence in the UK.
