Home Birth Team

Position: Band 6 Midwife

Location: Edinburgh and surrounding areas

As a core member of the NHS Lothian Homebirth Team, you will provide high‑quality antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women choosing homebirth and work within a collaborative team to manage a community caseload.

Responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women choosing homebirth.
• Work within a collaborative homebirth team and manage a community caseload.
• Work in partnership with women, respecting choice and promoting physiological birth.
• Promote informed choice, safety and personalised care, including families who choose to homebirth outside of guidance.
• Maintain clinical skills and confidence in managing community‑based obstetric emergencies.
• Complete enhanced training to support safe, informed and physiological birth.
• Work collaboratively with midwives, GPs, obstetricians and other health professionals to provide safe, individualised and multidisciplinary care.

Qualifications & Experience

• Registered Midwife with active NMC registration.
• Experience in intrapartum care and working in community or homebirth settings.
• Confidence in supporting physiological birth, managing obstetric emergencies and suturing.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, decision‑making and teamwork skills.
• A driving licence and access to a car (essential for this post).
• If employed by NHS Lothian, completion of the initial 3‑year rotation in the Early Career Midwives Pathway.
