Home Birth Team
Position: Band 6 Midwife
Location: Edinburgh and surrounding areas
As a core member of the NHS Lothian Homebirth Team, you will provide high‑quality antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women choosing homebirth and work within a collaborative team to manage a community caseload.
Responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women choosing homebirth.
- Work within a collaborative homebirth team and manage a community caseload.
- Work in partnership with women, respecting choice and promoting physiological birth.
- Promote informed choice, safety and personalised care, including families who choose to homebirth outside of guidance.
- Maintain clinical skills and confidence in managing community‑based obstetric emergencies.
- Complete enhanced training to support safe, informed and physiological birth.
- Work collaboratively with midwives, GPs, obstetricians and other health professionals to provide safe, individualised and multidisciplinary care.

Qualifications & Experience
- Registered Midwife with active NMC registration.
- Experience in intrapartum care and working in community or homebirth settings.
- Confidence in supporting physiological birth, managing obstetric emergencies and suturing.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, decision‑making and teamwork skills.
- A driving licence and access to a car (essential for this post).
- If employed by NHS Lothian, completion of the initial 3‑year rotation in the Early Career Midwives Pathway.
