Senior Civil Engineer – Detailed Design

As a Senior Civil Engineer at Jacobs you will lead the delivery of critical civil design packages, influence buildable solutions, and work with multidisciplinary teams from concept to construction. Your decisions shape real-world impact by ensuring designs meet safety, sequencing, access, and commissioning requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own technical delivery of civil design solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure
• Lead detailed design in collaborative, contractor-led environments, embedding constructability from day one
• Influence project outcomes by integrating safety, sequencing, access, and commissioning into your designs
• Work directly with construction and commercial teams to solve challenges in real time on live projects
• Elevate standards through design assurance, quality reviews, and technical leadership
• Mentor developing engineers and build next generation talent

Essential qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
• Experience delivering detailed design for water and wastewater infrastructure, ideally in D&B environments
• Strong understanding of UK design standards, specifications and regulatory frameworks
• Confidence to work with autonomy, sound judgement and accountability
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across design and construction teams
• Working toward or holding Chartered status (ICE or equivalent)

Desirable qualifications

• Experience supporting live construction projects
• Knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts
• Track record of mentoring or guiding junior engineers
• Familiarity with digital engineering tools and BIM environments
