Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS FT – Locally Employed Resident Doctor in Paediatrics ST6–8

This 2‑year fixed‑term role (possible extension) is available via the MTI route. The successful candidate will work under the close supervision of a supportive team of Consultants in a flexible environment that supports career aspirations.
The successful applicant will support the Consultant Paediatric team in delivering Acute Paediatric Services. Alongside acute services, you will gain clinical exposure in paediatric cardiology, respiratory, diabetes/endocrinology, and neonatology.

Main duties of the job
The post involves working mainly in acute clinical areas including the Children’s Observation Unit (CHOU), Children’s Ward (CHW), and the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, with some cross‑site working. Duties include participating in the Paediatric ST4+ rota, working an average 1:7 rota for out‑of‑hours work (long days, weekends, night shifts). Outsourcing outpatient clinics may occur depending on rota commitments.
- The role shares cross‑site on‑call and other clinical commitments with other Paediatrics colleagues on a rota system EWTD compliant.
- Provide comprehensive Paediatric and Child Health Service for Doncaster.
- Provide prospective cover for holiday, study leave, and first 48 hours of sickness/absence of a colleague.
- Provide input to Paediatric education and training within the department.
- Participate in Consultant‑led general Paediatric and specialty clinics.

Qualifications
- Full GMC registration and ongoing licence to practise.
- MBChB/MBBS or equivalent.
- Completion of FY1/2 and ST1‑3 training or SHO equivalent within Paediatrics including general paediatric and neonatal posts.
- MRCPCH (written) and MHCHB or equivalent.
Experience and achievements
- Demonstrated clinical experience and competence in Paediatrics at ST6–ST8 level or above.
- Experience of both inpatient and outpatient activity at expected ST6–ST8 competencies.
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems and support resident medical staff and nursing team.
- Competence in procedural skills relevant to the level of the post.
- Ability and willingness to learn from colleagues, senior and other sources.
Personal qualities
- Embraces responsibility for identifying sound and effective solutions to problems.
- Evidence of continual learning and development.
- Understanding of self (strengths and weaknesses) and impact of behaviour on others.
Teaching and training
