We are NHS Scotland’s unique provider of a national tele‑health and tele‑care service, delivering health advice and information by telephone and online to the people of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient‑focused service providing triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.

Our Regional Centres are located at Cardonald, Clydebank, South Queensferry, Dundee and Aberdeen. This post will be based at Cardonald Regional Centre and Dundee Regional Centre.

The Role

Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is an autonomous post providing a telephone triage and clinical assessment service to patients/callers presenting with mental health illness/conditions, in mental distress or acute crisis, resulting in a safe and appropriate clinical decision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act autonomously as a practitioner providing telephone triage and clinical assessment services to callers presenting with mental health issues, ensuring a safe and appropriate clinical decision.
  • Support third‑party callers who contact the service concerning another individual’s mental health, ensuring a safe and appropriate decision.
  • Facilitate the provision of accurate healthcare information, self‑care or health‑improvement advice, or where applicable, referral to the appropriate level and location of care, to meet the holistic and therapeutic requirements of the patient or carer.
  • Share specialist clinical knowledge with colleagues and take part in the delivery of ongoing training, education and support for colleagues, for example as a preceptor or clinical supervisor.

Successful Applicant Will Demonstrate

  • Completion of training as a first‑level registered nurse in mental health with a current valid registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
  • Relevant years of post‑registration experience.
  • Experience working within a Community Mental Health Multi‑disciplinary Team essential.
  • Evidence of well‑developed critical decision‑making skills.
  • Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
