Central London, with weekly travel to other UK locations.

Salary & Pay Approach

The role qualifies for a specialist capability‑based pay approach that rewards cyber technical expertise. Starting salary: £44,190. Based on skills and experience assessed at interview, appointment may be made at a higher salary point within the stated range, potentially increasing the salary to £52,972. Retaining a higher salary requires evidence of the required skills against the Cyber Technical Framework within the first year of employment. Further progress within the pay range may be achieved as skills develop and are maintained.

Responsibilities

The role involves:

  • Designing, installing, and maintaining intelligence‑gathering solutions for MI5, MI6 and GCHQ.
  • Installing, configuring, and managing remote infrastructure such as firewalls, routers, switches and servers.
  • Investigating technical issues and collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand and meet their unique requirements.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of automation systems in a multi‑vendor environment.
  • Participating in individual project work aligned with team priorities.
  • Potentially joining the on‑call rota and providing cover during staffing shortages.
  • Engaging with industry colleagues and attending international events when required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Sound foundation in network engineering and prior technical industry experience.
  • Proficiency in Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies, and experience configuring networks on GNU/Linux‑based systems.
  • Interest in cyber security and global datacentre interconnection.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and effective communication with technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience working on cross‑functional projects.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry and move equipment, and willingness to undergo a fitness assessment.

Training & Development

Includes:

  • Induction, shadowing, and mentoring with a buddy from MI5.
  • Access to the Cyber Technical Framework (CTF) and related assessments.
  • Training courses covering management, leadership, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Opportunities to specialise with technical projects and pursue professional qualifications.
