Senior Civil Engineer – Glasgow, United Kingdom

Overview

Responsible for engineering design and delivery of civil infrastructure for energy projects across the EMEA region, including renewables (solar PV, BESS, hydrogen), data centres and advanced power generation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design and approval of civil site development, including BESS, solar arrays, access roads, platforms, earthworks, drainage and cable routing.
• Design and approve surface water and foul drainage systems, including SuDS schemes, attenuation storage, flow control and pumped systems, in line with industry standards.
• Conduct hydraulic analysis, drainage assessments and flood risk assessments to meet regulatory and planning requirements.
• Prepare and review complex deliverables such as drawings, specifications, technical reports, method statements and construction support documentation.
• Co‑ordinate survey, geotechnical, environmental and third‑party data to support civil design.
• Manage package work, including programme, budget and quality, and contribute to risk management.
• Provide technical leadership, review junior engineers’ work and support their development.
• Engage with internal stakeholders, clients, contractors and regulatory bodies on site constraints and program drivers.
• Serve as specialist point of contact within a defined practice area (e.g., earthworks, drainage, cable corridors, renewable site layout).

Travel and On‑Site Requirements

• Primarily office‑based; occasional travel to sites and client offices.
• Site visits for development activities, typically one day, and regular monthly visits for owned construction projects.
• Opportunities for medium to long‑term site secondments with additional compensation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience in civil site development and enabling works in the UK.
• Experience in civil engineering design.

Preferred Qualifications

• MSc in a related field.
• Professional recognition (e.g., Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership).
• Registration with a UK professional engineering body.
• UK project experience in site development, especially drainage design.
• Experience with substation spatial layout, external works design, utility and drainage coordination, and civil infrastructure feasibility.
• History of establishing and maintaining client relationships.
• Familiarity with proposal/tender preparation and review.
