Salary and Working Conditions

Salary: £48,000-£53,000 (dependent on experience)

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2-3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. All successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS) managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The Opportunity

The Test Equipment Definition team specifies, delivers, and supports a variety of test equipment used throughout the development life‑cycle of complex defence systems. The team acts as requirements authority for simulators, emulators and test equipment across development, integration, qualification, manufacturing and through‑life support phases.

As a work package manager, you will be responsible for acceptance of test solutions from manufacturers and delivery into programmes, balancing cost, schedule, and quality.

Mission

  • Establish world‑class Test Solutions, Environment Simulators and Emulators for internal use and for customers’ armed forces.
  • Contribute to MBDA’s international Weapon System Test Equipment Strategy, balancing technology re‑use with emerging trends.
  • Apply the strategies to all new programmes and through‑life enhancement upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Define clear requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop and understand interface specifications.
  • Contribute to key activities in the engineering development life‑cycle.
  • Manage schedule, cost, quality and performance metrics for assigned work packages.
  • Work within a multi‑discipline engineering team (Systems, mechanical, electrical, software etc.).
  • Understand the benefits of re‑use versus new development.
  • Capture transversal engineering stakeholder needs (Safety, Cyber, Human Factors, Customer Support Services, etc.).

Qualifications & Development

  • Possess strong systems engineering knowledge and negotiation skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience as a Definition Lead or similar role is desirable, though educational or experiential background may substitute for a formal engineering test background.
  • In addition to the core responsibilities, you may be expected to run peer and design reviews, limit technical risks through mitigation strategies, and grow your professional network within the multi‑national defence organisation.
