Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Building Safety Manager to lead the operational management of building safety across a portfolio of Higher-Risk Residential Buildings (HRBs) within social housing.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021 and Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, supporting a proactive culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining Building Safety Cases and Building Safety Case Reports, coordinating multi-disciplinary stakeholders, engaging residents on safety matters and acting as a key point of contact with regulators.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead building safety management across designated higher-risk residential buildings (HRBs).
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, statutory guidance and building safety requirements.
- Develop, maintain and review Building Safety Cases and Building Safety Case Reports, ensuring robust documentation and evidence of effective risk controls.
- Coordinate inspections, audits and assessments relating to fire, structural and building safety risks.
- Work collaboratively with Housing, Repairs, Asset Management and Compliance teams to identify, manage and mitigate building safety risks.
- Support resident engagement by providing clear, accessible communication around safety measures, responsibilities and performance.
- Oversee building safety improvement works, ranging from minor safety enhancements to larger fire, façade, structural and life‑safety projects.
- Liaise with regulators, including the Building Safety Regulator and Fire & Rescue Services, ensuring timely submissions, responses and compliance activity.
- Provide professional advice, mentoring and guidance to operational teams and stakeholders on building safety matters.
- Maintain current knowledge of legislation, best practice and emerging developments within building safety and social housing compliance.
Essential Experience & Knowledge
- Strong working knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021 and Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, with experience applying these within a social housing environment.
- Understanding of building safety case principles, building control processes, resident engagement requirements and regulatory frameworks.
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience within building safety, fire safety, housing compliance or a related field.
- Proven experience developing and managing Building Safety Case Reports and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience engaging residents, stakeholders and operational teams to drive safety improvements and compliance culture.
Qualifications
- CIOB Level 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management (or currently working towards).
- Evidence of continued professional development within building safety, fire safety or compliance.
Desirable Professional Memberships
Membership or eligibility with professional bodies such as CIOB, IOSH, IFE, IFSM, RICS, or equivalent relevant organisations.
