Overview
Manchester Civil Justice Centre, part of HMCTS’ NW region, is seeking a senior operational manager to oversee civil jurisdiction operations. The role involves leading the civil team, supporting the Cluster Manager and Cluster Operations Manager, and ensuring the centre delivers high‑quality, customer‑focused services.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the civil jurisdiction team to achieve operational objectives.
- Support the Cluster Manager and Cluster Operations Manager in meeting performance targets and delivering on cluster goals.
- Maintain positive, effective relationships with the judiciary, support agencies, voluntary groups, and court users.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and service levels.
- Constructively manage complaints and implement corrective actions within established timelines.
- Ensure Health & Safety, IT/Workstation compliance, and raise any court facilities issues to HMCTS Estates teams.
- Provide direction and close support to managers for developing team plans, resourcing, training, and budgeting.
- Set local priorities and objectives aligned with national/regional strategies and plans.
- Monitor and report on performance against targets, identifying and implementing solutions to local problems.
Qualifications
- Experience managing civil court operations or a comparable operational environment.
- Strong leadership and team‑management skills.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
- Proven track record of setting objectives, meeting targets, and managing budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and solve complex operational issues.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and compliance requirements in a court setting.
- Experience with complaint handling and issuing corrective action plans.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills, capable of working independently and as part of a wider team.
Working Hours
Standard full‑time hours are 37 hours per week. Part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing arrangements may be considered if they meet the demands of the role and business needs.
