Human Factors Engineer – 6/M Contract (Bristol)
We are looking for an experienced Human Factors Engineer to join a market‑leading Defence and Aerospace company. The role will involve working alongside multi-disciplinary teams to develop human‑factor integration throughout the product lifecycle, with an emphasis on progressive assurance to the customer as per Def Stan 00-251. The successful candidate will need to obtain UK SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Human Factors integration through the development lifecycle.
- Provide progressive assurance to the customer as per Def Stan 00-251.
- Analyse the role of the operator within the weapon system, taking into account mission planning and control.
- Define and maintain HCI design and specification artefacts.
- Plan and conduct user engagement activities to inform design within a Human‑Centred Design approach.
- Support and collaborate closely with wider systems teams, including delivering briefings when required.
- Coordinate across teams to inform demonstrator requirements and organise user engagement events.
Skillset & Qualifications
- Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF).
- Experience applying Human Factors in a Defence context with knowledge of Defence Standards (e.g. 00‑251).
- Proficiency in Human‑Computer Interface design, specification, and prototyping (e.g. Axure RP).
- Experience conducting core HF activities such as task analysis, requirements development, and user engagement.
- Background in multi-disciplinary engineering teams, especially systems and software engineering.
- Understanding of Model‑Based Systems Engineering and SysML notation.
- Knowledge of the Naval domain and mission‑planning and control systems.
The contract is 6 months, based in Bristol, at £90 per hour inside IR35.
