Cloud Architect

About the Opportunity

Amentum is looking for a Cloud Architect to design, deliver and evolve secure cloud-based solutions for Defence and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) programmes. The candidate will align cloud architecture with business and mission objectives, ensuring scalable, secure, and resilient systems across complex environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop secure cloud architectures (public, private, and hybrid) aligned to client requirements and enterprise architecture principles.
• Translate business and operational needs into robust, scalable cloud solutions, including infrastructure, platform, and data services.
• Define and govern cloud standards, patterns, and reference architectures across programmes.
• Lead on cloud migration strategies, including legacy system transition, application modernisation, and data migration.
• Ensure compliance with Defence and CNI security standards, implementing Secure by Design principles and risk management approaches.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across architecture, engineering, security, and delivery teams to ensure coherent end‑to‑end solutions.
• Conduct technology horizon scanning and provide recommendations on emerging cloud capabilities and innovations.

Required Qualifications

• Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology) or equivalent experience.
• 3‑5 years’ experience designing and delivering cloud solutions.
• Strong experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud) and associated services.
• Experience developing cloud strategies, architectures, and roadmaps aligned to business objectives.
• Good understanding of cloud architecture patterns (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, microservices, serverless), containerisation and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker), networking, and cloud security principles.
• Understanding of data architectures and integration approaches within cloud environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, ability to articulate complex technical concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Experience & Knowledge

• Experience within defence or CNI environments.
• Familiarity with architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, UAF, MODAF).
• Knowledge of security and governance standards relevant to Defence and CNI (JSPs, NIST, ISO27001).
• Understanding of Secure by Design and risk management approaches.
