We are looking for an experienced and motivated Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our Breast imaging team.

Are you an independent autonomous practitioner with experience of Breast Ultrasound, Image Interpretation and Breast Interventional procedures, who can take a lead role in clinical decision‑making while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team?

You will provide expert clinical assessment, differential diagnosis, while offering guidance and support to junior colleagues.

This senior role also includes delivering advanced clinical practice, clinical leadership, supervision, mentorship and support to multidisciplinary professionals, including ACPs, junior medical staff and nursing staff across all grades.

Main duties of the job

Doncaster has embraced the 4 tier model using a mixture of Assistant Practitioners, Mammographers ( with extended roles ) and Advanced Practitioners who perform a mixture of film reading, Interventional Biopsies & Breast Ultrasound. We are committed to role extension and continuing professional development.

The department provides a full symptomatic and breast screening service spread over 3 sites:

  • Jasmine Unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary – Provides 4 Fast Track, 2 Assessment & 2 Surveillance / Family History Clinics per week and includes 2 new GE Logic E10 ultrasound scanners and 2 Siemens Inspiration mammogram machines with PRIME Technology upgraded to state of the art MAMMOMAT Revelation with 50 HD Breast Tomosynthesis.
  • The Princess Diana Unit at Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop provides 2 fast track clinics, 2 screening days, 1 assessment & 1 surveillance / family history clinic and includes 1 new GE Logic E10 ultrasound scanner and both the Siemens Inspiration mammogram machine & the MAMMOMAT Revelation with 50 HD Breast Tomosynthesis.
  • Devonshire House is our new dedicated static screening unit close to the centre of Doncaster and railway station where Siemens Inspiration with PRIME Technology is currently being installed. Currently we run screening clinics every day from 8 -4.30pm, Monday – Friday.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

  • Significant experience in breast imaging, with demonstrable advanced and autonomous clinical practice in mammography and breast ultrasound.
  • Evidence of advanced clinical decision-making in complex and emotive situations, including delivery of patient‑centred care to women receiving difficult or unexpected outcome
  • DCR or BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography
  • Health Care Professional and registered with HCPC with relevant clinical experience
  • Postgraduate qualification(s) relevant to breast imaging, such as: Breast Ultrasound, Image interpretation and Interventional breast procedures
  • Experience working in both breast screening and symptomatic services
  • Involvement with Quality Assurance processes at local, regional, or national level.
  • Training or qualifications in leadership, education, audit, or quality improvement

  • Advanced communication skills, including the ability to manage complex, sensitive, or emotionally AF, In, P charged interactions with patients and relatives

Knowledge & Experience

  • Recognised autonomous practitioner with expert knowledge of: NHS Breast Screening Programme policies and standards Breast imaging equipment and techniques
  • Ability to organise and manage departmental workload across multiple sites, contributing to service resilience and capacity
  • Breadth of experience in gathering, analysing and disseminating information – clinical, education or research/ evaluation based
  • Demonstrates ability to meet timeframes and relevant key performance indicators
