About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the School of Medical Sciences as an Associate Professor (Clinical) in Vascular Surgery, with an honorary consultant appointment at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The post holder will be a high‑calibre clinician scientist with an established national or international research profile, contributing to a multidisciplinary cardiovascular research environment with a strong reputation for applied vascular research, particularly randomised controlled trials and work in peripheral arterial disease. The role combines research leadership, teaching and clinical practice within a supportive and ambitious academic setting.

You will lead and develop a competitive research programme aligned with the University and NIHR Biomedical Research Centre Cardiovascular Theme, generate external research income, and supervise postgraduate and undergraduate researchers. Alongside academic responsibilities, you will undertake clinical duties as part of the vascular surgery service at Glenfield Hospital, including independent endovascular operating, clinics, multidisciplinary team meetings and on‑call commitments, within an agreed integrated job plan that balances academic and clinical programmed activities.

About you

You will be a fully accredited vascular surgeon, or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register, with full GMC registration and a licence to practise. You will bring a strong track record of world‑leading research outputs, experience of leading or contributing to randomised controlled trials, and the ability to secure independent external funding. A relevant higher degree and a clear commitment to research excellence, impact and collaboration within national and international networks are essential for this role.

You will be committed to high‑quality teaching and supervision across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with the ability to inspire students and trainees in both academic and clinical settings. The University of Leicester values inclusivity, academic freedom and impactful scholarship, and you will be expected to contribute positively to leadership, citizenship and collegial working, while upholding professional, ethical and governance standards in line with University and NHS requirements and the Higher Education Freedom of Speech Act 2023.
