Transport & Mobility Planning

WSP’s Transport & Mobility team works across the UK & Ireland on multidisciplinary public and private sector projects, including transport strategy and policy, active travel planning, public transport planning, research, feasibility studies, training and funding applications.

Roles and Responsibilities

Exact roles and responsibilities vary with experience but may include:

  • Leading a variety of Transport Planning projects and proposals, providing technical and commercial input.
  • Managing tasks as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with WSP specialists to deliver projects from concept to delivery.
  • Supporting the acquisition and delivery of work for local clients.
  • Preparing Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, and engaging in client and local authority scoping discussions.
  • Leading technical discussions on site accessibility for various modes and articulating impacts and mitigations for planning approvals.
  • Taking a lead role on technical review and checking of deliverables within the team.
  • Representing WSP values in a collaborative client/consultant environment.
  • Contributing to WSP’s four pillars (People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Technical Excellence) and supporting senior leads.

You will collaborate with Net Zero, Future Mobility, Freight growth areas, and practice groups such as Public Transport, Active Travel and Transport Communications on innovative strategies.

Qualifications & What We Look For

Required experience will vary but typically includes:

  • Experience in active travel, public transport, transport programme/scheme development and/or business case development.
  • Experience developing transport-focused strategies, plans and policies.
  • Experience working with Local Authority and Combined Authority clients.
  • Experience managing and coordinating all aspects of transport assessments and strategies for major or complex projects.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to deliver presentations and liaise with a variety of audiences, including colleagues, public sector officials and stakeholders.
  • Commercial acumen and support for wider team management.
