Serco: HMP Thameside, London, SE28Permanent, Full Time – Monday-Friday 08:00 – 16:30hrs (part of the on call rota1 in 11, with weekly on call payments of £160.00 per designated call week) Up to £37,000 + LWA £6,200 per annum + Benefits Package

What you’ll do as a Plumber / Gas Safe Engineer

You’ll Be Entrusted To

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, repairs, and testing of gas systems and plumbing installations throughout the establishment and cells.
  • Diagnose faults and complete defect rectification on plant and equipment
  • Install new plant, systems, and equipment as required
  • Support colleagues across the maintenance team with wider site activities
  • Maintain accurate schedules, records, and reports on work completed
  • Investigate equipment performance issues and provide recommendations for improvement

Does this sound like you?

  • A recognised trade apprenticeship or equivalent plumbing qualification (City and Guilds or NVQ)
  • Gas Safe registration with relevant commercial and domestic gas qualifications
  • Experience working with both commercial and domestic systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and prioritise workload
  • Good communication skills and a proactive approach to teamwork and continuous improvement

Vetting and checks

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
