Role Overview

The Scottish SPCA is seeking a Head of Development to support the charity’s mission to stop animal suffering. The role will engage major donors, trusts, corporates and community supporters, lead a high‑performing fundraising team, and innovate to build a resilient income base.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage income stream plans: ensure major donor, trust, corporate and community income streams have clear annual plans that feed into a multi‑year growth strategy.
  2. Conditions for success: make the charity fundraising‑friendly, develop case studies, identify fundable projects and collaborate with marketing and communications to deliver integrated activity plans.
  3. Engagement product development: explore, develop and market participation products that generate income or act as a powerful hand‑raiser for key audience segments.
  4. Team and budget: manage and develop the fundraising team, providing opportunities to become the best fundraisers in Scotland.
  5. Enable senior engagement: support the Chair, Trustees, CEO and leadership team to take an active role in growing fundraising success.
  6. Prospecting and cultivation: develop processes for identifying new supporters, organise flagship cultivation events to inspire new support and recognise existing contributors.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience leading step‑change growth or transforming income streams, preferably with a turnover of around £20million and predominantly voluntary income.
  • Strong knowledge of legacies, major donors, trusts, corporates, community and event fundraising.
  • Previous senior fundraising role such as Head of Function.
  • Understanding of purpose‑driven organisations and their culture.

Location & Working Arrangement

Dunfermline‑based, offering a hybrid working model.

Salary

Competitive salary in the range of £54,017–£60,168, depending on experience.
