Head of Maths

Location: Bankside School, Worcester, WR8 0AD

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.00pm

Salary: Up to £47,000 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: September 2026

Overview

We are seeking an inspirational and passionate Maths Leader who can raise achievement through personalised, engaging and inclusive teaching. You will lead the development of Maths across the school, delivering well‑structured lessons that build confidence, fluency and problem‑solving skills. Alongside teaching, you will shape the curriculum, support staff, and ensure high‑quality provision that meets the needs of pupils—many of whom have social, emotional or mental health needs. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in a challenging, motivating and highly rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and develop a responsive Maths curriculum aligned with national standards.
  • Promote participation, achievement and progression across all ability levels.
  • Lead and support staff to ensure effective delivery of Maths.
  • Drive continuous improvement through clear objectives, evaluation and quality planning.
  • Work with senior leaders to implement strategic and operational development plans.
  • Collaborate with the SENCo to ensure robust systems for tracking and reviewing progress.
  • Model high standards in teaching, behaviour and professional conduct.

About You

Essential:

  • UK QTS or equivalent.
  • Strong subject knowledge across number, algebra, geometry, statistics and problem‑solving.
  • Ability to plan and deliver accredited Maths pathways (Functional Skills, GCSE, Entry Level).
  • Skilled in engaging learners through varied and differentiated teaching methods.
  • Understanding of assessment and how to use it to support progress.
  • Awareness of statutory requirements for pupils with additional needs.
  • Empathy, resilience and the ability to manage challenging behaviour.
  • Confident in analysing data for regulatory and accreditation purposes.
  • Degree‑level education and evidence of teaching competence.
  • Driving licence required.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with SEMH/ASC pupils.
  • Ability to use digital tools, manipulatives and Maths‑specific software.
  • Knowledge of functional numeracy and key skills tuition.

About Bankside School

Bankside School is an exciting new venture near Hanley Castle, Worcester. Our new specialist school caters for students aged 11-18 years old with Autism, Complex needs and learning disabilities. For over 19 years, Options Autism has provided specialist care and education for children, young people, and adults with autism, complex needs, and learning difficulties.
