Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Consultant Respiratory Physician to support an NHS acute Respiratory service within the South East of England. This opportunity offers a structured long‑term locum placement with weekday ward cover, outpatient clinics and occasional on‑call responsibilities, providing consistent work within an established acute Respiratory department. The role is well suited to Consultants with experience supporting both general Respiratory pathways and lung cancer services, who are confident working within busy NHS environments while maintaining high standards of patient care. You will be working alongside established clinical teams, supporting day‑to‑day Respiratory service delivery and contributing to safe, effective patient management across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Contract Type: Long‑Term Locum
  • Start Date: June 2026
  • Duration: Until August 2026 initially
  • Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, including ward cover, clinic activity and occasional on‑call responsibilities
  • Pay Method: Direct Engagement / PAYE aligned to NHS framework requirements
  • Additional Notes: Lung cancer pathway support and general Respiratory service involvement required

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Deliver Consultant‑level Respiratory Medicine support within an established NHS acute service
  • Provide inpatient ward cover across Respiratory pathways
  • Support outpatient Respiratory clinics and lung cancer pathway clinics
  • Participate in occasional on‑call activity where required
  • Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing teams, AHPs and wider MDT colleagues
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation aligned to NHS standards
  • Support patient flow, discharge planning and safe ongoing patient management
  • Contribute to maintaining safe, effective and well‑functioning Respiratory services throughout the placement

What We’re Looking For

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Respiratory Medicine
  • Relevant recent UK Consultant‑level Respiratory Medicine experience
  • Experience supporting lung cancer pathways and general Respiratory services
  • Ability to work effectively within busy NHS acute environments
  • Strong clinical judgement, communication and MDT working
  • Ability to support structured rota‑based service delivery
  • Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship)
