Wind Tunnel Systems Team Leader
Alpine Formula One Team is seeking an experienced and motivated Wind Tunnel Systems Team Leader to join our Experimental Aerodynamics Department. Based at our state‑of‑the‑art wind tunnel facility in the Oxfordshire countryside, this role will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for the systems that enable high‑quality aerodynamic testing.
Role
The Wind Tunnel Systems Team Leader will provide technical and people leadership to a team responsible for the development, operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the electrical, electronic, control, instrumentation and hydraulic systems that support our wind tunnel, test rigs and related technologies. The role collaborates with aerodynamicists, engineers, designers, electronics and software teams to ensure a safe, reliable, efficient testing environment that delivers high‑quality data.
The role combines leadership with hands‑on engineering and includes:
- Operational support for wind tunnel systems.
- System development and fault finding.
- Simulation and embedded/electronic product development.
- Continuous improvement across the wind tunnel systems environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the wind tunnel systems team and manage day‑to‑day operations.
- Develop and maintain electrical, electronic, control, instrumentation and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues rapidly to maintain system reliability.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure the testing environment meets safety and quality standards.
- Drive improvement initiatives to enhance system capability, robustness and performance.
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical, Control, Systems, Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience with complex engineering systems, ideally within a wind tunnel, motorsport, aerospace, automotive or similar demanding environment.
- Experience with wind tunnel facility and model systems, and a good understanding of subsystem interactions.
- Experience in industrial automation, system integration, commissioning and fault finding in real‑time or operational environments.
- Experience in PLC programming, Beckhoff TwinCAT, embedded software (e.g., .NET, C#, Python), data acquisition/instrumentation, electrical, electronics or hydraulic systems.
- Experience with modelling, simulation and system behaviour analysis using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Simscape or equivalent.
- Strong communication, teamwork and project leadership skills.
- Proactive, detail‑focused, calm under pressure, and committed to safety, quality and reliability.
Working Pattern
- Factory‑based role at Enstone Technical Centre in Oxfordshire.
- Standard hours 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Flexibility required to meet demands.
- Occasional weekend work and travel.
